Among the valves used in industrial flow control systems, gate valves are one of the most common and functional solutions. Used to fully open or close the flow of liquid or gas, this type of valve is known for its low pressure loss and reliable sealing properties. So, what isa gate valve, how does it work and in which applications is it preferred?

A gate valve is a type of valve that operates with a slider (gate) moving inside and controls the fluid passage with the up-and-down movement of this slider. The gate is placed perpendicular to the flow line. When the valve is fully open, the fluid passes through unimpeded; when it is fully closed, the flow is completely interrupted.

Therefore, gate valves are suitable for fully open or fully closed operation, notstepped.

Gate valves are usually operated by a handwheel. As the wheel is rotated, the spindle in the internal mechanism moves the gate up or down:

When it liftsup: Valve opens, flow is free.

Gate Valve Description
